Water Temperature – 16C at 6ft, Clarity (Gateside Bay - Secchi disc) 2.3m.
Some calm days last week led to an accumulation of algae on downwind shore and the statutory posting of health warning notices association with algal blooms has been carried out. Recent high winds have dispersed the algae a little. As a precaution we are advising that fishing is for catch and release only while we await further analysis. The algae is largely located in the north east corner of the lake with good or reasonable clarity in the western and southern basins, and fishing has been good. The Scottish Police Recreation Association (East) netted 85 trout with their 15 boats on Monday 28th (2.8 rod average). Andy Smith netted this cracker on the 27th Aug (Main Picture).
SCOTTISH CLUB CHAMPIONS: On Friday 25th August the second semi final of the Scottish clubs took place with 30 boats weighing in 113 trout for 278lbs (mean weight 2lbs 8oz) and a further 198 returned, giving a rod average of 5.2 trout. The top team were the Welshman, Scotsman and the Englishman that are the Fish Hawks (see picture) with 28 fish (Phil Thomas 11, Simon Gaines 9, Alan Gamble 8 - )
followed by Gateside FF with 26 (Brad Chalmers 11, Derek Hesset 6 and Greg McLaren 9. Also qualifying were Lintrathen B, Orvis A, Lintrathen A, Neilston A, Saltire A and Select FF. Top team tactics were 6ft, 3ft sink tip or floater with candy booby on the point and diawls further up – fishing tight to the shore. Ian Colligan (left) caught the biggest fish.
YOUTH NATIONAL – belated congratulations to Cameron Smith, Marco Ezzi and Zach Neufeld for being the top 3 rods (all had 7 fish) in the first heat of the Youth National held at the Lake on 19th Aug.
